Noelia Lorenzo Monge (1979) was born in Puerto Rico to singer/actress Yolandita Monge and Alfredo Lorenzo.
In 1998, Noelia followed in her mother's footsteps by pursuing a career in music. Since childhood, the girl had always showed an interest and talent for music so it was a logical step. In 1999, her first album was released and was a hit. The self titled debut sold more than 500,000 units which granted it Gold Album status in the United States. After that, there was no stopping Noelia and has released six full length albums plus one greatest hits album. She has frequently been in the top Latin Billboard hits for her songs in the pop genre.
Noelia's career has been marked by scandal and controversy since early on. The singer gained considerable attention for her relationships with famous Latin celebrities. With one of these celebs, a rapper named Yamil, Noelia made a sex tape. The video was leaked on the internet in 2007 and caused a huge public scandal. Interestingly, it is thought that Noelia's then current boyfriend, Mexican producer Jorge Reynoso, was the one who leaked the sex tape. However, there is no concrete proof of this.
Just a short while afterwards, another scandal broke out when Noelia charged her step father (and once manager) of sex assault back in 2003. A lawsuit was filed in which singer Ricardo Montaner was called as a witness. There was a very public court case in which the step father sued Noelia and Reynoso for defamation and libel. The case was dismissed but only after a huge media scandal.
The attention seemed only to help Noelia's career and she continues to be active in the music industry. In 2008, the singer was named by People en Espanol one of the most beautiful people. |
